New Regulations for Cruise Ships
The recent decree prohibits cruise ships capable of carrying more than 900 passengers from allowing their guests to explore Nice.
In contrast, the city welcomes smaller cruise vessels, which typically offer a more intimate and luxurious journey.
Mayor Estrosi has reiterated his dedication to striking a balance between tourism and the quality of life for residents, stressing the necessity of shielding the city from excessive tourist influxes.
With projections estimating an increase to 300,000 cruise visitors by 2026—up from 160,000 last year—the city is gearing up for a busy future.
Enhancements to the Port
Preparations for 2025 are already underway at the port, which is set to receive approximately 124 cruise arrivals, ranging in size from 32 to 700 passengers.
Enhancements to the port’s facilities are on the horizon, including the installation of electrical connections that will enable ships to turn off their engines while docked, contributing to a decrease in pollution.
The mayor also recognized the pressures that neighboring towns like Cannes face due to the surge of tourists arriving on larger cruise ships, understanding that local leaders have limited control over maritime regulations.
